The program is open to highly skilled and accomplished professionals in priority sectors with international recognition. This may include global researchers, innovative entrepreneurs, investors, professional athletes, and creatives. Candidates may be based overseas or already in Australia on a temporary visa.

There is no age limit for the NIV program. However, applicants under 18 or over 55 must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.
The NIV prioritizes applicants in Tier 1 sectors, which include Critical Technologies, Health, and Renewable Energy. Applicants in Tier 2 sectors such as Agri-Food, Defence Capabilities, Education, Financial Services, Infrastructure, and Resources are also considered. Exceptional talent outside these sectors may still qualify.
Applicants must have a proven track record of exceptional and outstanding achievements, demonstrated through evidence such as senior roles, patents, awards, publications, or intellectual property. They must also secure a nomination from an Australian organization, state, territory, or federal government agency.
Yes, applicants can include their immediate family members, such as their spouse and dependent children under 23, in their application.
To apply for the NIV, candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Department of Home Affairs. The EOI allows candidates to present their qualifications, skills, and achievements. Only applicants who receive an invitation from the Australian Government can proceed with the visa application
The processing time varies but generally takes between 9 to 12 months from the submission of the EOI to the granting of permanent residence.
No, a job offer is not mandatory. However, applicants must clearly outline their intended activities in Australia and demonstrate how these will benefit the nation.
